【Across Boundaries and Generations: A Thread, Seafarer, and Mooring】Performance Research and Community Dance Project

  • Creative Placemaking
Unlock Dancing Plaza’s resident artist Cheung Wai Yin and interdisciplinary artist Tsz Wai Pun have embarked on collaborative research inspired by their respective families’ maritime histories. Starting from Taikoo Dockyard’s shipbuilding legacy, they delve into ethnographic and archival research about Quarry Bay and nearby areas and uncover hidden stories in the depths of the harbour. Focusing on the theme of mooring knots, the artists will create a performance rich in imagery, text, sound, and movement, revealing a maritime narrative interwoven with seafaring, navigation, marine biology, and the texture of time.

Meanwhile, Unlock Dancing Plaza’s community engagement artists, Ong Yong Lock and Andy Lee, will draw inspiration from this cross-disciplinary collaboration to develop a ‘Body on Stage’ piece related to the research. In addition to conducting a series of movement workshops for the public, the artists will co-create and perform alongside community members. After six months of exchange and study, both projects will culminate in final performances during the Quarryside Community Festival in October.
