HASS Fest 2024: “Boredism”
Feeling bored is an intrinsic part of being human. Our minds wander when we are dealing with repetition and routine. Our bodies respond with “distracted behaviour,” which is how we instinctively cope with boredom. In “Boredism,” we argue that such behaviour should be understood and explored, rather than suppressed.
HASS Lab, as a socially engaged art collective, has been investigating what boredom can teach us, especially when exemplified in neurodivergent individuals. We partnered with 4 schools in an experimental programme where we observed, documented and transformed distracted behaviour into creative art and learning experiences. Our findings form the foundation of “Boredism,” as well as contribute to our ongoing art research, the Distraction Databank.
The exhibition at “Boredism” is an open invitation for all to come and experience the tools and games resulting from this transformation. In addition, the roundtable discussions are an opportunity for practitioners, caregivers and individuals in the neurodivergent community to gather and share findings on how boredom presents opportunities for learning and growth.
